Summer Camp
The Traveller Family Support Project in North west Clare held a SummerCamp for 3–5-year-old children from the traveller community. 11 children attended every day and engaged in Sports, Art/Craft and sand play. They planted flowers to take home and had lots of fun in the community garden playing and interacting with each other.
On the last day of camp we went on a bus to Moher Hill Farm which was the highlight of the camp. The children fed lots of different animals, played in the indoor sand pit and indoor ball pool. Kathleen Mongans volunteered with us for the Summer Camp and the children engaged very well with her. Kathleen is very friendly and interacts well with the young children.
On Art/Craft Day the children took part in creating an Art Display for Traveller Pride Week. They all helped colour in the letters and chose 4 pictures that represent their culture. Handprints were also added to it to represent identity and belonging.
Over all the Summer Camp was a success, both the children and the parents were sad to see it end as they thoroughly enjoyed it. Their attendance was excellent which is a true testament of enjoyment and fun for all the children.
